Kanaloa and the Hawaiian Creation Myths

In the beginning it was dark and there were only the four great Gods of Polynesian mythology: Kane, Ku, Lono and Kanaloa. Out of the darkness appeared a large gourd of calabash. Lono threw it out and caused the sun, the moon and all the stars. Kane formed the sea; Kanaloa the land and Ku created all the living creatures in and out of the sea and on the land and in the air. The Gods then conferred and agreed they would create man and so they did. But soon they could detect Man was lonesome. What to do? They agreed to make Woman out of Man's shadow and so they did. When Man turned and saw her there he was thrilled and never again would be lonely.
